Spray Painter/ Blaster

Job Description

Prepares and paints materials and assemblies, using several types of general and special equipment, in the production of a semi trailer.


  • Paints on flat, curved, vertical surfaces and overhead surfaces in some cases not visible to the naked eye
  • Sets and adjusts painting equipment such as setting air pressure on air- assisted pumps and siphon gas cups.
  • Mixes paint using various techniques and equipment.
  • Prepares surfaces to be painted including masking, taping, use of hand sander and blasting equipment.
  • Moves the components and large containers using various material handling equipment including overhead crane, forklift, manual and powered carts and trolley systems or carrying materials by hand.
  • Cleans and maintains the work area, machines, tools and equipment
  • Observes all safety and security procedures.
  • Performs other routine duties as necessary


Process Standard-

  • Employee must be able to set-up, operate and clean various paint spraying equipment.
  • Employee must be able to prepare surfaces to be painted using equipment including hand held pneumatic tools.
  • Employee must be able to accurately read labels, instructions and measuring tools.
  • Employee must be able to accurately complete documentation.
  • Employee must be able to perform and remember how to perform multiple tasks from day to day.
  • Employee must look for potential cost savings in the work process, help keep scrap and waste to a minimum and be efficient in use of all supplies.
  • Employee must be able to perform the physical requirements listed in that section of this job description.

Quantity Standard-

  • The employee must perform the assigned tasks in a manner in which they meet or exceed the required production level.
  • The quantity of units, parts, assemblies and/ or installations that is expected will vary with the process being performed, customer specification, volume and location.

Quality Standard-

  • Painter must inspect his/her product as instructed by standard operating procedures.


To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential functions and skills listed below.


  • Knowledge and skill to operate spray painting and associated equipment is required. A test may be given to assess this.
  • Ability and knowledge to effectively prepare surfaces to be painted.
  • Ability to read labels and instructions.
  • Ability to complete various written documentation including inspection readings, reports and other forms.
  • Ability to use a computer to read manufacturing orders.
  • Ability to measure paint accurately.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure. Must be competent in math to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following supervisor s instruction.
  • Aptitude to learn and retain new information.
  • Ability to follow instructions, given either verbally or in writing.


  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Physical Qualifications:

  • Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8-12 hours a day.
  • Ability to see, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb (including ladders), work overhead, push and pull. See more detail on separate Painter task description.
  • Ability to lift heavy (up to 50 pounds) multiple times daily in an 8 to 12 hour shift.
  • Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 180 pounds) by pushing, pulling and flipping them into place with the assistance of mechanical devices and/or additional personnel.
  • Physical requirement includes a medical questionnaire that assesses pulmonary health as related to welding and wearing Personal protective equipment. Further examination of pulmonary health may be required based upon the responses in the questionnaire.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.

Work Environment-

  • Employees must wear all mandated PPE which includes at least protection for the eyes, ears, hands, head, body and feet.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
