JOB TITLE: Medical Records Clerk (Preparation & Processing)
LOCATION: GSS Storage Facility
DEPARTMENT: Health Information Management
WORK SCHEDULE: Evenings (Medical terminology required. Valid Driver?s license required. Travel between locations required. Rotating weekends and holidays required)
WORK TYPE: Full Time (1.0 FTE; 80 hours biweekly)
JOB SUMMARY:
Receives Trauma, GCMCTRA, GSACHUNK, GBLOOMUNK, GLHUNK, and Alert notifications 24/7, verifies proper documentation has been received and patient is stable prior to merging or updating. Provides 24/7 coverage for telemed and trauma transfer linking. Provides coverage for emergency fax requests of medical information for continuation of care requests, handling and reporting of deceased patients, gift of life linking, copying of QIO appeals on off hours, weekends and holidays. Scans paper medical record so information is viewable in EpicCare. Assigns medical record numbers for GHP members from a daily extract. Secures, issues, processes and assembles medical records. Ensures record retrieval to the hospital 24/7. Receives, verifies, and merges patients with Duplicate Medical Record Numbers for the entire health system. Works closely with the following systems and interfaces during merge process: IDX, EPIC, DQM, Siemens. (GMC, GCMC, GLH, GBH and GWV), Passport, MM7, and Chart/fact. Communicates the correct information and completion of double number merges to all sites throughout the health system. Will identify corrective actions to decrease the number of duplicate medical record numbers created.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
Works under the direction of the assigned Health Information Management (HIM) Team Leader or HIM Supervisor.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates the ability to work with large volumes of detailed information and high pressure situations.
Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, funeral directors, and other Health System employees verbally and electronically.
Demonstrates Computer skills such as MM7, Passport, Siemens (GMC, GCMC, GBH, GLH AND GWV), EPIC, DQM, IDX, Chart/Fact, Tower, Kofax, Healthland, Outlook, Word/Excel, RIS, Phiilips PACS, TSO, Geisinger Connect and Single Sign-on Trauma Notification System.
Demonstrates a high regard for confidentiality, good interpersonal skills, and strong organizational skills.
Demonstrates self-motivation to be able to work independently.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Medical Terminology post high school required.
Computer experience required.
Prior medical records experience preferred.
Minimum of 6 months to 1 year on-the-job training to become familiar with all positions, computer systems and procedures.
Valid PA driver?s license required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in an office environment.
Constant standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds are involved in job duties. Requires the operation of different machines. Very high stress levels may be involved.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
