JOB TITLE: Discharge Analysis Clerk
LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center Hospital
DEPARTMENT: Medical Records
WORK TYPE: Part Time Rotating weekends and holidays required. Medical terminology required. Valid drivers's license required. Travel between campuses may be required.
Verifies receipt of medical records of recently discharged patients, reviews records for completion of the discharge summary and assigns appropriate attending physician responsible for completion of the medical record.
Performs record control activities for medical records located in the Health Information Management Dept. located at GMC in Foss Lower Level.
Identifies incomplete entries in discharged inpatient and observation patient medical records.
Works with physicians and others to secure completion of the medical record.
Directly accountable to the Supervisor
Required medical terminology, keyboard skills, and clerical skills.
Demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively.
Demonstrated filing skills in both terminal digit filing as well as alphabetical filing.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Post High School medical terminology course is required.
Minimum of one year of clerical experience with exposure to medical record content or one year experience in the Preparation and Processing section of the Medical Record Department required. There is a specific twelve-week on-the-job-training schedule. At the end of twelve weeks, the person is expected to be able to perform the job accurately. At the end of twenty-four weeks, the person is expected to meet departmental standards for the position and will be considered trained.
Work is typically performed in an office environment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
