Job Duties Geisinger's Department of Ophthalmology is a highly successful, dynamic, and growing multi-specialty group with both optometrists and ophthalmologists, including Cataract / Comprehensive as well as subspecialists in Retina, Glaucoma, Cornea, Oculoplastics, and pediatrics. Performs and/or interprets diagnostic tests as needed. Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illness. May prescribe or administer medications. Prepares, maintains, and reviews records that include patients' histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes. Position Details An optometrist is a doctor of optometry, an OD. A health care professional who is licensed to provide primary eye care services. Optometrists examine and diagnose eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts and retinal diseases; diagnose related systemic (body-wide) conditions such as hypertension and diabetes that may affect the eyes; examine, diagnose and treat visual conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia; and prescribe glasses, contact lenses, low-vision rehabilitation and medications. Optometrists also perform minor surgical procedures such as the removal of foreign bodies. Work is typically performed in a clinical and office environment. Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
